RATP Dev, a subsidiary of Paris transport operator RATP, won a tender launched by the DDOT (District of Columbia Department of Transportation) for the operation and maintenance of the first tramway line in Washington DC.
The first tramway line in Washington will be 3.25 km long and have seven stations. It will serve the north-east part of the city. It should be operational by the end of 2013. It is the first line of a network that is set to grow strongly over the coming years and become a vital part of urban transportation in Washington DC, according to plans of the DDOT.
The operation and maintenance of the line will be provided by a specially created subsidiary, RDMT (RATP Dev McDonald Transit). RDMT will also be in charge of the preparatory phase before the commissioning in 2013 (staff training, technical tests etc.).
