With the aim of contributing to a more balanced environment through the progress and development of sustainable transport system in Latin America, the ILATS-Latin-American Initiative for Sustainable Transport, a non-profit entity which assembles associations, environmental entities, operators, industry, governing body, development bank, international organisations and society in general. The initiative is centred in urban mobility and its relations with land-use planning and urban environment.
Last 19th June, the ALAMYS president, Mário Fioratti, signed a letter of support for the ILATIS proposal for the Nations Conference of Sustainable Development RIO+20 in a ceremony in the city of Rio de Janeiro. For Mário Fioratti "this initiative is very important for the development of public transport systems in the big Latin-American cities, as a way of guaranteeing quality of life, especially in those less favoured classes.
Aurelio Rojo, ALAMYS General Secretary, emphasised: "The compromise of ALAMYS with its Members is to contribute to the development of sustainable development systems by mean of initiatives presented in the last General Assembly of the Association in Guadalajara (Mexico), through institutional works and declarations. These actions are directed to politicians asking for a decisive commitment which favours citizen mobility in the Latin American cities".
