Spanish Minister for Development presents new high-speed hybrid train linking Galicia and Madrid

11/06/2012 - SPAIN
The Spanish Minister for Development, Ana Pastor, presented 9th June the new Renfe Alvia `dual-hybrid` trains of the series 730 which will run between Galicia and Madrid (on weekends they will continue to Alicante).

The new dual-hybrid trains S-730, which will substitute the current Talgo trains, will allow to extend the benefits of high speed to non-electrified sections, which will mean the reduction in travel times in over 30 minutes between the two communities.

The new service will increase 88 seats per day (616 more weekly seats). The Alvia S-730 has a total 528 seats with a double composition. More seats are available on Fridays and Sundays and other high demand periods.

A €78 million investment
The new S-730 model is the result of the transformation of 15 units of the series 130. €78 million have been invested. It is one of the most versatile trains in the world, incorporating diesel and electric motors (for tracks with and without electrification), moving rotation (for conventional and international gauge), bitension (for two different catenary tensions) and for the signalling systems to run on all the existing Spanish lines. The S-730 can run at maximum 250 km/h in high speed lines adn 200 km/h in conventional lines. Apart from Renfe, in its industrial division Integria, Talgo and Bombardier have also participated.
